Hausworks Builds Passive Retreat on Lake Waukewan

At HausWorks, we’re proud to be part of projects that reflect deep respect for nature, energy efficiency, and lasting craftsmanship. The recent New Hampshire Homes feature on the Lake Waukewan residence — designed by A-W Architects and built with precision by our team — captures this ethos beautifully.

Homeowners Mark Barer and Shanna Shulman envisioned a retreat immersed in its wooded surroundings — one that felt nestled in the trees, not imposed on them. Their vision of a minimalist, fossil-fuel-free, 100% electric home made from all-natural materials was brought to life through a collaborative process with A-W Architects and the innovative prefabricated passive panels from Ecocor.

HausWorks was honored to bring this sustainable design to life with high-performance construction techniques, including dense-packed cellulose insulation, durable Eastern white pine siding, and strategic material choices that reduced both operational and embodied carbon. Inside, modern Scandinavian design elements and triple-glazed windows offer serenity, comfort, and high energy performance. Outside, the floating deck and thoughtful outdoor living spaces connect seamlessly with the natural surroundings.

This project exemplifies our commitment to high-quality, high-performance building — where beauty and environmental stewardship meet.
